Montalbano is a mountain chain of Tuscany which, extending for 25 km, joins the provinces of Pistoia, Prato and Florence. With a maximum altitude of 600 m a.s.l. it is characterised by vast stretches of olive groves alternated with chestnut and oak woods. This tour is rich in trails immersed in greenery that join some of the most characteristic villages of the area.
Considering the large presence of marshlands, Montalbano has always been used as a passageway for travellers, merchants and armies. It is no coincidence that a section of the ROMEA STRATA passed through this area, the ancient road system which from northeast Italy, crossing 5 regions for more than 1300 km, headed towards the via Francigena to reach Rome.
The Tour of Montalbano and Romea Strata, considering the amount of trails that cross it, includes an infinite variety of solutions able to suit the characteristics of everyone. The most technical trails and the dirt roads with slight gradients allow our guides to study the most suitable journey for your needs.
This Tour to travel by bike (gravel or Mountain bike) is recommended for lovers of trails immersed in woods of oak trees, arbutus and chestnut trees alternated with stretches of olive trees and vineyards. The scenic landscapes feature views that stretch as far as Florence from one side and to the sea on the other.
On request, the Tour can be enriched by a stop in one of the many farm restaurants and farms that populate the area.
Montalbano, which is famous for the production of wine and oil, offers many alternatives. It will be our pleasure to recommend the bar most suited to your needs.
