The town of Montecarlo (informally Montecarlo di Lucca), founded in 1332, is a small Tuscan gem, located a few kilometres from Montecatini Terme, in the province of Lucca, on the ridge that separates Valdinievole from Piana di Lucca. The village, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, is immersed in one of the most beautiful settings of the Lucca hills, and it is famous for the production of excellent wine and oil.
The Montecarlo Tour includes cycling on secondary roads, banks and dirt roads, crossing the western zone of Valdinievole, to the foot of the hill. From there, we will immerse ourselves in the characteristic Tuscan countryside, among farmhouses, olive trees and vineyards of rare beauty. Following a fun track, characterised by continuous ups and downs, our guide will take you to Quercia delle Streghe. This imposing chestnut tree is approximately 600 years old with a 4 m wide trunk and a foliage of more than 40 m in diameter. Legend has it that, considering the closeness to Collodi, this is the one where the puppet Pinocchio was hung by his assassins, who wanted to rob him. Reaching the town, we will find the imposing fortress, and then continue to the town, rich in small churches, enchanting views and characteristic bars in which to taste local specialties. The Rassicurati theatre is very particular. It seats 150, making it the smallest theatre in Italy. Built in the early 19th century, it still has a year-long programme.
